Morrisons Wants To Open One Of Its North Staffordshire Supermarkets 24 Hours A Day
Supermarket giant Morrisons wants to open one of its North Staffordshire stores 24 hours a day.
The Leek store has applied to change its alcohol licence so it can open and sell booze round the clock.
The store – off Newcastle Road – is currently licensed to sell alcohol until midnight each day, although it normally only stays open until 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 4pm on Sundays.
Licensing sub-committee members at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council will make a decision on the application at a meeting this morning.
But the council report notes that even if the application is refused, the supermarket could still open 24 hours a day, but would have to stop alcohol sales at midnight.
And if the variation is granted, the store would still be subject to Sunday trading laws, meaning it would continue to open at 10am and close at 4pm on Sundays.
