Covid-19 Vaccines Are Set To Start In Leek This Week

Vaccines against the coronavirus are set to start in Leek this Friday.

A supply of the medication is due to arrive in the town on Thursday.

Speaking to the InYourArea and the Post & Times, Dr Neil Briscoe said: “We are due to receive a supply of the vaccine in Leek this Thursday. At this stage, we are not sure which one of the two available vaccines it will be.

“We have patients booked in for Friday to start the vaccinations programme and we hope to go into care homes next week.

“This is welcome news. We are rolling out our vaccination programme across the area, but we are still in the early stages of the programme and concentrating on our patients aged over 80 who we know are the most vulnerable.

“Patients will be contacted when it is their turn to receive the vaccine and given all the details they need, and we would ask that they do not call their GP practice.

“Centres can only vaccinate people who have an appointment.

“In the meantime, it is essential that people make themselves familiar with the latest lockdown rules that were announced yesterday and take their advice on Covid from official NHS sources.”

A supply of the Covid-19 vaccine is also expected to be delivered in Biddulph in the coming days.
